Lithuania’s Neringa seeks to put stop to renting out of yachts as hotel rooms – daily

“We have already asked the State Tax Inspectorate to look at whether such business activity is legal,” Neringa Vice-Mayor Dovydas Mikelis said.

“We also think that the use of yachts as floating hotels runs counter to the regulation for the protection of the Curonian Spit National Park and, therefore, its authority should react as well,” he said.

The official worries that tourists living on the yachts will increase the pollution of water and says that local people complain about the noise in the port.

The national park’s authority says, however, that yacht owners are not banned from offering accommodation aboard their boats.

The Nida passenger port was clean up last year, which cost the Neringa municipality over 90,000 euros, and can now accommodate up to 120 yachts and pleasure boats at a time.
