Lithuania’s Neringa to commemorate Sartre, French prisoners

Sartre’s 1965 visit to the resort town of Nida will be commemorated with a bronze sculpture near Parnidis dune, and a symbolic bench will honor the memory of prisoners of WWI.

These projects were last week discussed by Neringa Mayor Darius Jasaitis and French Ambassador to Lithuania Philippe Jeantaud.

“The mayor said the municipality is about to decide on the installation of Sartre’s sculpture near Parnidis dune to commemorate his visit to Nida in 1965”, the ambassador said.

The Neringa mayor also said the memory of French prisoners would be honored with a symbolic bench, to be unveiled in September.

French experts also plan to come to Lithuania to research a prisoner camp in Lithuania, with its exact location still needs to be determined.
