Lithuania’s ruling coalition talks education and healthcare reforms

Members of the ruling coalition met on Monday to discuss the country’s economic future and priorities in the government’s work.

“Today I presented the political council with a report on the government’s activities, also, what priorities set in the government’s programme have been implemented and which will continue to be implemented,” the PM said after the meeting.

According to Butkevičius, the ruling coalition’s members agreed to continue with an intense pace of work by coordinating the activities of the Seimas and the government, particularly when it comes to reforms. The PM said that the areas of science and education and healthcare would be reformed.

“We particularly focused on implementation of the education, science and studies programme and I believe that this year this part of the programme will be given close attention. We must find a political agreement regarding certain amendments to the Law on Higher Education and Research, the healthcare reform which is currently being implemented, regarding the Neurosurgery Centre, bone marrow transplantation and so on,” he said.
