“We spoke today about registering amendments that will only be effective for the next election, (apart from) that part concerning the Social Democratic thriller and their divorce. Their subsidy would be divided between them,” Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said on Tuesday.
Draft amendments tabled to the Seimas called for putting in place a new model that would have led to the LVŽS receiving up to 0.5 million euros in additional funding annually and would have sharply reduced state subsidies to all other parties.
Skvernelis said that the LVŽS group in the Seimas decided not to rush into adopting the new model, but added that the recently-established LSDDP is entitled to a part of the state subsidy allocated to the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP).
“They would simply share the subsidy they earned running in the election as members of one party,” he said.
The Seimas decided on Tuesday to vote on the respective amendments to the Law on Political Parties under a fast-track procedure.
