Imports from the rest of the world stood at EUR 145.6 bn, nearly stable compared with May 2014 (EUR 145.5 bn). As a result, the euro area recorded a EUR 18.8 bn surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in May 2015, compared with +EUR 14.7 bn in May 2014. Intra-euro area trade rose to EUR 137.3 bn in May 2015, up by 1 pct compared with May 2014, Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union said.
In January to May 2015, euro area exports of goods to the rest of the world rose to EUR 828.9 bn (+5 pct compared with January-May 2014), while imports rose to EUR 734.0 bn (+1 pct compared with January-May 2014). As a result the euro area recorded a surplus of EUR 94.9 bn, compared with +EUR 60.2 bn in January-May 2014. Intra-euro area trade rose to EUR 698.9 bn in January-May 2015, up by 1 pct compared with January-May 2014.
In January-May 2015, Lithuania’s exports of goods to the EU totalled EUR 5.7 bn, up by 5 pct. Meanwhile, imports of goods from the EU amounted to EUR 6.8 bn, up by 3 pct. Lithuania’s exports of goods to the rest of the world totalled EUR 3.3 bn, down by 17 pct. Imports from the rest of the world totalled EUR 3.5 bn, down by 6 pct. As a result, Lithuania’s total trade balance deficit was EUR 1.3 billion.
The first estimate for extra-EU exports of goods in May 2015 was EUR 145.8 billion, +4 percent compared with May 2014 (EUR 140.5 bn). Imports from the rest of the world stood at EUR 139.5 bn, -1 pct compared with May 2014 (EUR 140.4 bn). As a result, the EU recorded a EUR 6.3 bn surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in May 2015, compared with +EUR 0.2 in May 2014. Intra-EU trade rose to EUR 248.2 bn in May 2015, +2 pct compared with May 2014.
In January to May 2015, extra-EU exports of goods rose to EUR 728.5 bn (+6 pct compared with January-May 2014), while imports rose to EUR 708.4 bn (+2 pct compared with January-May 2014). As a result, the EU recorded a surplus of EUR 20.1 bn, compared with a deficit of EUR 4.8 bn in January-May 2014. Intra-EU trade rose to EUR 1,260.2 bn in January-May 2015, +3 pct compared with January-May 2014.
