The government and employers plan to back the Bank of Lithuania’s proposal to raise the minimum wage by 20 euros to 420 euros so that it makes 47.3 percent of the average monthly salary. Meanwhile, trade unions want it increased to 450 euros.
Last year, the Tripartite Council decided that the minimum wage should make 45–50 percent of the average salary.
According to the Labor Code that went into force in the middle of the last year, the minimum wage can be paid for unqualified work only.
