“Logistics personnel of the Lithuanian Armed Forces are executing a complex operation in cooperation with NATO allies to ensure successful participation of Lithuanian troops in a NATO exercise beyond Lithuania’s borders. Redeployment operations require top-level preparedness and professionalism,” Colonel Sigitas Mundris, Commander of the Logistics Command of the Joint Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces says.
Redeployment of personnel and equipment is a complex procedure, therefore specialists of the Logistics Command prepared explicit redeployment plans using the Logistics Functional Area Services (LOGFAS), a NATO logistical operations programme, ahead of the opening of the exercise in Spain. LOGFAS enables NATO allies to carry out advance assessment and optimisation of transportation capabilities.
Three-fold deployment to the area of operation in Spain will be carried out by land, air and sea. Soldiers with the Movement Control Centre of the Lithuanian Armed Forces with their counterparts from Estonia, Latvia and other countries are ensuring a fluent movement of forces via seaports and airports, and facilitate fulfilment of customs procedures at border-crossing points.
The Baltic Battalion comprising roughly 20 Lithuanian troops and nearly 50 units of military materiel will receive support from a Forward Support Company formed by logistical support specialists of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. BALTBAT, a combined unit of the three Baltic States, is assigned to the NATO Response Force for 2016.
Forward Refuelling Unit with mobile refuelling system of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytenis Main Support Battalion takes part in the exercise. It will carry out helicopter refuelling during the exercise at Zaragoza Airport in Spain in composition of an international logistical support unit together with French and Italian soldiers. Exercise Trident Juncture will train members of the Forward Refuelling Unit for standby for the NATO Response Force in 2016.
