Lower turnout in Lithuania’s mayoral run-off elections

By 7 p.m., an hour before planned closure of voting, 32.2 percent of registered voters had cast their ballots on Sunday, as compared with 39.78 percent of voters two weeks ago. The total voter turnout in the first round of voting was 47.17 percent.

The voter turnout during early voting in run-offs earlier this week stood at 5.13 percent (5.97 pct in the first round of voting).

Almost 2 million voters are eligible to vote in the run-off elections in 40 municipalities. Nineteen municipalities elected their mayors in the first round two weeks ago, and the election results in the district of Trakai were annulled due to violations.
