LVŽS leader calls Lithuanian president’s statement “nonsense”

He believes the president is trying to block his party’s initiative to investigate her email exchanges with former Liberal Movement leader Eligijus Masiulis.

“There are now desperate attempts to stop the LVŽS’s investigation, to stop everyone from asking questions about her emails. This is the reason this all nonsense is being said as this is complete nonsense. A person in the position of state leader cannot speak such nonsense,” Karbauskis told BNS Lithuania on Friday.

Karbauskis is the main shareholder of the Agrokocernas business group and claims he’s not involved in the management of the group in any form as he does not belong to any management body, he’s not an employee and he does not vote during shareholders’ meetings. He claims to have handed over his managing rights to a lawyer.

“I am surprised that the president interprets the Lithuanian Constitution in a new way as this is the first time I hear it that a person having shares cannot be a member of the Seimas,” Karbauskis said, expressing his resent over the president’s words.

“I do understand the president wants to shut me up by all means but she will not success,” the LVŽS leader said.

Grybauskaitė said earlier on Friday the Karbauskis’ activity in the Seimas might run counter to the country’s Constitution due to his business interests.
