Minister describes sewage pipe burst in Vilnius as major environmental disaster

In the minister’s words, the greatest damage may have been done to the salmon and sea trout populations of the river which flows into the Curonian Lagoon.

“What worries us most is the effect on salmon and sea trout, which could be caught in the city of Vilnius until now,” he told the Žinių Radijas station.

The major pipe burst occurred last Friday on an underground car park construction site near the Green Hall 3 business center that is being built in Vilnius. The authorities declare a state of emergency in the capital after the accident caused thousands of cubic meters of waste water to spill into the River Nėris.
