67 lawmakers voted in favor of the conclusions, 33 were against and 13 abstained.
Agnė Širinskienė, chair of the impeachment commission, said the commission’s decision was mainly based on the conclusion of a pre-trial investigation. And law enforcement institutions have found no evidence on Skardžius’ any criminal activity.
Moreover, Širinskienė said, Skardžius’ actions in questions were made in 2012-2016 during the term of the previous parliament, and the Constitutional Court had explained that a lawmaker could only be impeached for any breach of oath and gross violation of the Constitution since their last oath.
The impeachment was initiated by a group of lawmakers who alleged that he might have committed a gross violation of the Constitution and his MP oath by leasing his land to wind farms and later pushing through amendments on renewable energy resources.
The impeachment commission also looked into Skardžius’ family’s renewable energy business in Belarus.
