NATO jets in Baltics perform 5 scrambles to intercept Russian planes

On August 31, NATO fighter jets identified and intercepted two Su-27 fighters and two Tu-22 strategic bombers of the Russian Federation, all flying according to pre-filed flight plans, but without using their on-board transponders and maintaining radio communication with air traffic control centres, and one An-26 transport aircraft flying according to a pre-filed flight plan, with its onboard transponder switched off and maintaining radio communication with air traffic control centres.

On September 4, NATO fighter jets identified and intercepted a Russian Il-38 maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft flying without having pre-filed a flight plan, without using its onboard transponder and not maintaining radio communication with air traffic control centres.
