NATO jets scrambled 8 times last week to intercept Russian planes over Baltic Sea

On July 30, NATO fighter aircraft intercepted an AN-26 flying from Kaliningrad oblast to the mainland of the Russian Federation without using the on board transponder, according to a pre-filed flight plan, and maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.

On July 31, NATO fighters intercepted an AN-56 flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia without the flight plan and without using the onboard transponder, keeping radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre.

On July 31, NATO fighters intercepted a group of five SU-30SM flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad. None had flight plans, one aircraft kept the onboard transponder on and maintained radio communication.

On August 1, NATO fighter jets intercepted an IL-38 flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad with its onboard transponder on, without the flight plan, without maintaining the radio contact.
