New Baltic Amber two euro coin released by Bank of Lithuania

“Amber is associated with the formation of Lithuanian and Latvian national identity and has become an integral part of their cultural identity”, said Dr Bonifacas Stundžia.

The amber amulet on the coin is reminiscent of some neolithic archaeological finds in the Baltic States.

“We have conducted a one million run of Lithuanian coins that can be used not only in Lithuania, but also in other eurozone countries. So this coin will remind us and other Europeans about our historical roots and of the unique Baltic culture. In addition, I wish that this circle, rolled into your wallet, would be a sign of success and happiness,” said Deivis Stankevičius, the head of the cash division at the Bank of Lithuania during the coin presentation.
