“A solution was reached dealing with funding issues and, to the best of my knowledge, this is one of the fastest-built bridges in Kaunas. The bridge is being opened at the right time, before All Souls’ Day, when transport flow increases. From now on residents of Kaunas will no longer have to waste time travelling around,” the prime minister said congratulating residents, construction workers and city officials on the completion of the project.
News agency ELTA asked the prime minister about the Government’s contribution to the construction of the new Panemunė bridge. Butkevičius replied that EUR 13 million was allocated, which accounts for 40 percent of the project’s cost.
A total of EUR 30 million was needed to erect the bridge joining both banks of the River Nemunas. Municipal, borrowed and other funds were used to implement the project.
