The academy was ready to accept up to 110 new students, however, did not receive enough applications from suitable candidates. Major Stasys Vilkinas, the head of the academy’s Studies Division, said the accepted students were leaving for a basic training on Tuesday. In his words, 5-10 percent of the accepted students change their minds about the course of the study after the training.
The aim of accepting up to 110 first-year students was not reached, as more than half of the 150 applicants fell short of requirements.
“Although we had 150 applicants of whom 134 met the professional requirements, we still had medical and security requirements, as well as the general university-level requirements prescribed by the Education and Science Ministry. Unfortunately, a very large share did not read the information, and many fell short of certain requirements,” said Vilkinas.
For instance, some of the applicants had only passed the examination of the Russian language, although the Military Academy required a grade in the examination of English, German or French, in addition to graduation examinations of the Lithuanian language and maths.
