From January to December this year, 3,097,393 passengers came through Vilnius airport. In November, on average, more than 8,000 people travelled through the airport in a day. The overall flow of passengers has grown by 13% in a year.
“For the first time in 100 years of the airport’s history we have surpassed the three million passenger mark – as many as we have inhabitants in the country. It is very pleasant to see the results of us working actively with the airlines [to increase traffic], but we do not plan to stop here – next year we will offer even more flight destinations from the capital, so we expect even more passengers,” said Jūratė Baltrušaitytė, the head of the commerce at Lithuanian Airports.
Currently, regular flights from Vilnius are carried by 17 airlines flying to 55 destinations. New destinations added to the flight map this year included Glasgow, Memmingen (Western part of Munich), Berlin, Billund, St. Petersburg, with the frequency of flights to Brussels, Paris, Stockholm, Oslo and Kiev increased.
In 2016, travellers from the Lithuanian capital‘s airport will be able to directly reach the Swiss city of Zurich, while the frequency of flights to Barcelona, which is a favourite destination for Lithuanians, will also be increased.
