With 64.10 percent support, Karbauskis scored a resounding victory in the Šilainiai constituency over Rimantas Jonas Dagys of the conservative Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats, who received 33.72 percent of votes.
Karbauskis, who has an agricultural business, was number two on his party’s list for the elections, giving the number-one position to Saulius Skvernelis, a former interior minister who is not a member of any party.
Karbauskis has said that he will not seek any high-ranking posts in the Seimas and the government. He plans to head the Peasant and Green Union’s political group in the parliament.
