Peasants need compromise with SocDems on taxes, social policies – Karbauskis

“We will have to find common grounds on social and tax policies,” Karbauskis told Vilnius journalists on Monday.

In his words, negotiations will also be held with the Social Democrats on tasks in the fields of education, health and environment protection.

Saulius Skvernelis, one of the Peasants’ leaders, said the party also attaches importance to the position on the reform of the public sector and state companies.

The Lithuanian Peasant and Green Union should open coalition talks with the Social Democrats at the parliament later on Monday.

In the recent parliamentary elections, the Peasant and Green Union secured 56 mandates in Lithuania’s 141-seat parliament, while the conservative Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats won 31 and the Social Democrats won 17.
