PM says he’s unsure how many refugees Lithuania will have to accept

“The number may vary any time, the quota for Lithuania will be one if we are talking about 120,000 refugees and another if we are talking about 160,000. I cannot tell you today how many there will be as the issue was not solved yesterday,” the prime minister told the national radio.

Ministers of EU member states met on Monday and reached an agreement to relocate 40,000 migrants based on the scheme proposed by the European Commission (EC) earlier. However, a decision was not reached when negotiating on quotas to share 120,000 refugees – as proposed by the EC in early September. According to the prime minister, member states jointly decided that the EU’s border protection must be stepped up immediately, but the Czech Republic and Slovakia opposed the quota system.
