The Police Department said the automobiles would be purchased “depending on the available budget.”
Some 80 mew vehicles for patrolling and responding have already been bought in early 2017. earlier this week, police commissariats received 19 light patrol vehicles Škoda Superb Combi, in addition to 17 mi nivans Volkswagen Kombi, 20 small wagons Volkswagen Caddy and 24 SUV vehicles Škoda Yeti delivered to the country’s police stations earlier.
“As part of the implementation of the changes, we are cutting the number of buildings and moving more officers to the streets, with more work done at crime scenes. As automobiles are transforming into mobile and computerized workstation where our police officers will spend a lot of time, it is our obligation to our staff to make the time as comfortable and as suitable for operations round the clock as possible. We should also consider difficult-to-pass and bumpy roads, blocked yards, therefore, we want the automobiles to be as durable as possible,” Police Commissioner General Linas Pernavas said in a press release.
The budget of the Police Department this year totals at 221 million euros, up from 210 million euros in 2016.
