Popularity of ruling Lithuanian Farmers, Greens Union further down – poll

“When it comes to political parties, the sensation may be that the Homeland Union is first, followed by the Farmers and Greens Union in second – this it the first time, I cannot remember when they (conservatives) were first. This is not their accomplishment, it is just that the popularity of the Farmers and Greens Union has been declining for seven consecutive months – they have support of about 13 percent of the population and would get votes of 22 percent of those coming to polling stations, while the Homeland Union are supported by 13.5 percent of the population and 23.5 percent of voters,” Vladas Gaidys, CEO of Vilmorus polling company, told BNS.

In his words, the two parties aligned last month: “The tendency is stable and obvious.”

According to the survey, the ruling LFGU was backed by 12.9 percent of respondents in July (15.7 pct in June), while the conservatives had support of 13.5 percent (15.5 pct in June).

Gaidys said the popularity of the ruling Social Democrats was virtually unchanged in July at 9.7 percent (10.7 pct in June), they were traditionally followed by the Liberal Movement with 4.9 percent (5 pct in June). A total of seven political parties crossed the five-percent threshold in multi-mandate voting.

The Vilmorus poll was conducted on June 30 through July 9.

According to the survey conducted by the polling company RAIT for BNS news agency published on Friday, the conservatives had almost caught up with LFGU in terms of popularity, with 19 percent of those polled pledging to vote for LFGU and 16 percent for the conservatives.
