“He was a very active politician who was very interested in politics in the broad sense of the word. He is also one of the few young Social Democrats who had the potential of becoming the party’s leader and running for prime minister or president. He was indeed highly educated and intelligent,” Butkevičius, the leader of the Social Democratic Party, told BNS on Sunday.
In his words, Požela could have run for the leader of the Social Democrats during the party’s next congress.
Butkevičius said Požela was a genuine representative of left-wing values and a very friendly person.
“He was a very nice person to talk to, a person of high culture and very respectful,” said the prime minister.
Požela died in early hours of Sunday of pancreatitis at the age of 34.
