“The president believes that an open vote would help ensure transparency and prevent intrigues and possible manipulations,” Mindaugas Lingė, an adviser to the president, told the Žinių Radijas radio station on Tuesday morning.
The LRT Council plans to elect the next director general of LRT on Tuesday afternoon.
Žygintas Pečiulis, the council’s chairman, has told BNS that the council will vote in a secret ballot after interviewing all 12 applicants for the job.
Pečiulis says, however, that it is too late to change the voting procedure.
“We are not changing our position regarding a secret vote, because our rules do not allow us to change the procedure after it has been announced or after the competition has started”, the chairman told BNS, commenting on the president’s position.
“The vote will be by secret ballot,” he added.
