“We all see the reaction of people. I can only share the opinion that neither freedom nor history can be falsified,” said the president of Lithuania during her visit to Prienai district on Friday.
In reaction to the Seimas decision to not give the award to the architect of Lithuania’s independence, some public figures launched a symbolic solidarity campaign urging to proudly wear a braid with national symbols for a tie – a signature accessory of Landsbergis.
As reported on Tuesday, the Seimas declined the nomination of Landsbergis to be granted the Freedom Prize for 2015.
The Freedom Prize is awarded every year on the Day of the Defenders of Freedom – 13 January. The prize was established on 15 September, 2011.
