“I would like to assure you that nothing will be reduced, everything will be paid on time, the state will indeed deal with challenges. The government has been instructed to reconcile the two parallel tasks,” the president told the national radio LRT on Thursday.
According to the president, currently the priority is to reinstate and increase the reduced pensions, also to increase salaries of the lowest earners in the public sector. Furthermore, the president strongly supports the government’s plans to increase the minimum monthly salary.
Grybauskaitė says the country is capable of carrying out all of its commitments and sees as much as four sources where the money may come from: economic growth exceeding 3 percent, dividends unpaid by state-owned companies, money circulating in the black market and the European Union support funds.
