President Grybauskaitė tells youth organisations to fight disinformation

“Civic and patriotic youth is important for our future as well as present day. Young people’s initiatives and critical thinking will determine how we will live tomorrow and what Lithuania we are going to create in the future,” the president said in Tuesday’s meeting.

According to the president, information war is a threat to national security, therefore information becomes an exceptional weapon that can help ensure safety of the country when the situation in the region is becoming tense.

The head of the state noted that the public and young people had to be civic, be able to resist disinformation and attempts to discredit the state, and not to give in to manipulations with information.

The president said that using the advantages of the internet and social networks, active and conscientious young people not only had to discern lies and libel in the public sphere but must also help their friends, colleagues and relatives do so.

Representatives of forty Lithuanian youth organisations and experts on security attended the meeting with the president.
