Prime ministers wants to see Labour MP Baltraitienė as Lithuania’s new minister of agriculture

“Following Monday’s meeting with Mrs. Baltraitienė, I expect that she will be (appointed as agriculture minister). She studied economics at the Lithuanian University of Agriculture. I remember those times when she was the municipal mayor and would determinedly take decisions,” Butkevičius told reporters.

In 2012, Baltraitiene was among candidates to head the Ministry of Educaton and Science, but the president then refused to appoint her.

The prime minister acknowledged the fact that the president had criticized Baltraitienė before but, he added, “the majority of issues were related to the Lithuanian EU Council presidency.” Back then, the president had objections about Baltraitienė’s command of the English language.
