Public trust in media up in Lithuania – survey

Published on Saturday, the survey by Vilmorus for the Lietuvos Rytas daily showed that 39.9 percent of people trust the media, up from 34.7 percent in September.

Traditionally, Lithuanians have the most trust in fire fighters and the police. 88.4 percent trust firefighters (88.7 percent in September), and the percentage of those who don’t’ trust tem is under 1 percent.

Trust in the police grew from 61.7 to 64.8 percent.

56.8 percent trust the army (54.5 percent in September), followed by the Church with 53.5 percent (50.4 percent), the president with 52.7 percent (52.4 percent), the social insurance funds SoDra with 47.8 percent (46.5 percent).

The least trust people have in political parties as only 6.5 percent trusted them in October (6.8 percent in September). And 66.3 percent don’t’ trust them.

10.5 percent trust the parliament (8.1 percent in September), and 58.4 percent don’t trust it. 21.1 percent trust the government (22 percent), and 35.5 percent don’t trust it.

The survey was carried out on Oct. 5-14.
