The street of Vaclovas Bernotenas would be renamed after priest Father Stanislovas.
Radviliškis Mayor Antanas Čepononis told the daily the city has wanted to change the street named after the hero of the Battle of Kursk and Soviet Union since Lithuania regained independence.
“Earlier, all residents were strongly against any change. This time the public opinion is not that categorical,” he said.
The local municipality also pledges to compensate for all additional costs related to the street name change. They might stand at around 10 euros per person.
According to the mayor, local residents suggested naming the street after Father Stanislovas, who was born here, as the 100th anniversary of his birth is approaching.
The local council will consider this issue on Aug. 23.
