“One of the envisaged programmes will look into ways to cut alcohol sales in non-grocery stores,” Butkevičius told Žinių Radijas on Thursday.
He refused to elaborate, saying that the details of the legislation still need to be sorted out.
Lithuania has been among the top alcohol consuming countries in Europe. Several high-profile alcohol-induced incidents over the last month have pressed the issue even further up the public agenda.
Lithuania has recently banned selling alcohol in petrol stations, but the government said it would look into additional measures to cut alcohol consumption. These might include restrictions on alcohol sales and advertising.
