The Russian customs office on Monday evening sent out an internal document instructing its officers to check vehicles and goods from Lithuania under a tightened procedure, Linava said in a press release.
This is a temporary measure, but no specific dates are given, it said.
Over the last weekend and Monday, Russia started applying a much stricter inspection procedure to cars with Lithuanian registration plates, also vehicles with goods of Lithuanian companies or goods re-exported by Lithuanian companies.
Russia has explained that the decision to pay particular attention to Lithuania’s vehicles and cargos was made because “illegal embargo goods” were being brought in across the border.
