Russian historian turns to court over refused entry to Lithuania

The court’s spokeswoman Sigita Jacinevičienė-Baltaduonė told BNS that the plea has been registered, with a decision on whether it will be examined to be made within a week.

As Dyukov cannot attend the hearings, he will most likely be represented by a lawyer with a practice in Lithuania.

Dyukov is a persona non grata in Lithuania. He was not allowed to enter Lithuania after flying in to Vilnius on 13 August to attend a presentation of his book. He was stopped by Lithuanian border guards and returned to Moscow on the following flight.

In his plea, the Russian national said he was told at the airport that he had been included in a list of persons constituting a threat to security and public peace of one or several countries of the European Union. Dyukov maintains that the refusal of entry in Lithuania violated his freedom of thought and consciousness.
