Sabonis named most influential sports figure in Lithuania – survey

Former discus thrower Virgilijus Alekna, now an MP, came in second in the public poll, followed by swimmer Rūta Meilutytė.

Žalgiris Kaunas coach Šarūnas Jasikevičius, Daina Gudzinavičiūtė, president of the Lithuanian International Olympic Committee, tennis player Ričardas Berankis, Toronto Raptors player Jonas Valančiūnas, former basketball player Linas Kleiza, now a stakeholder in the Vilnius BC Rytas, racer Benediktas Vanagas and weightlifter Žydrūnas Savickas also got into the TOP-10.

A separate elite survey by magazine Reitingai showed that Sabonis is also considered the most influential sports figure in Lithuania. He is followed by Jasikevičius, Meilutytė, Alekna, Gudzinavičiūte, Vanagas, Valančiūnas, Berankis, and basketball coaches Vladas Garastas and Jonas Kazlauskas.
