“One family may come in the near future (…). They are from Syria,” Jankevicius told BNS Lithuania on Saturday.
The refugee family would be relocated from Greece, but the vice-minister did not specify the number of family members or the exact date of their arrival.
According to him, the first family relocated to Lithuania under the EU program has already successfully moved to the capital, Vilnius – the father of the family of four works as a barber while his wife is staying at home to look after their small child and an older daughter.

Under the European Union program, Lithuania has relocated a family of four, while the commitment for two years is to host 1,105 individuals.
Lithuania’s permanent mission to the EU told BNS in early February that 279 persons so far had been resettled from Italy to other EU members under the EU program, in addition to 202 people from Greece. Meanwhile, the EU has agreed to distribute 160,000 refugees in the 2016-2018 period.
