Seimas election results could’ve been forged – Polish party leader

“We do not want to rule out the possibility that someone is trying to falsify the election,” Tomaszewski told Vilnius journalists on Monday.

He said his belief was based on the higher than usual voter turnout in early voting, biased media and low attention to the party from the national broadcaster.

MEP Tomaszewski said he also had proof of someone organizing a ride for 30,000 young voters to vote. Nevertheless, he did not provide any information or facts about the location of the incident or the party behind it.

The MEP also expressed astonishment over the math mistakes in the publishing of election results, however, accused the “dishonest” traditional parties rather than the Central Electoral Commission for the errors.

“Unfortunately, it is a very bad lesson for our democracy,” said Tomaszewski.

In his words, the party does not intend to appeal against the party’s results, as “winning is impossible when you work in the system where everything is determined by money.”

The politician dismissed as a disgrace the forecast given by conservative MP Andrius Kubilius before midnight on Sunday that merely four parties would win mandates in multi-member voting.

According to preliminary data published by the Central Electoral Commission, the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania and the Union of Christian Families collected 5.45 percent of the vote and secured five mandates in the 141-seat parliament. Also, two candidates, Leonardas Talmantas and Ceslav Olsevski, won mandates in single-member districts after the first round.
