Seimas has made no big mistakes yet – President

“I think there have been no big mistakes until now. There have been attempts to change something and to do something, especially to fight alcohol and alcohol use. There are good intentions and some things will certainly be done,” Grybauskaitė said in an interview with the TV3 channel broadcast on Monday.

“I myself (give them some space) and I call on others to give some space for novice lawmakers and not to crush them with criticism and publicity,” she said.

Grybauskaitė regards the new parliament’s hesitation in passing certain laws as “a trial period” and underscores its willingness to deal with deep-rooted problems.

The president welcomed the Seimas’ decision to uphold her veto of certain amendments to the Civil Code that would have restricted freedom of the media, saying that this showed that the lawmakers were able to accept criticism and correct their mistakes.
