Seimas panel to vote on conclusions of probe into Bastys’ ties

“This is why we’re convening, the meeting is intended for the conclusions, this is the only item on the agenda. The conclusion comprises about 80 pages,” the committee’s chairman Vytautas Bakas told BNS.

A few weeks ago, the parliament instructed the National Security and Defence Committee to conduct a parliamentary probe into Bastys’ ties with Russian energy figures and members of the Lithuanian criminal world, which prevented him from gaining permit for access to classified information.

The committee is to answer whether the contacts were not against the state interests of Lithuania, whether they threaten Lithuania’s national security and establish whether the mediation for Russian companies, intelligence and security officers caused harm to the state. The parliamentary body was also asked to establish whether the materials available in connection to Bastys is sufficient for impeachment proceedings.

The panel should present draft conclusions by Friday before they go to plenary.
