In an article-by-article voting on amendments to the Law on Alcohol Control, the Seimas on Thursday rejected a proposal to leave the minimum legal drinking age unchanged at 18.
The parliament is yet to hold a final vote on the entire bill.
Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga told lawmakers that it is only a matter of time before Poland, Latvia and Estonia follow suit and make it illegal for anyone under the age of 20 to drink alcohol.
