Seimas starts discussions on closing shops on holidays, Sundays

76 lawmakers last week gave their initial backing to the proposal initiated by the Order and Justice party, one was against and six abstained.

“We propose introducing restrictions that supermarkets would not operate on holidays and the last Sunday of a month, which is a similar model to our neighbor Poland‘s,” Remigijus Žemaitaitis, leader of the Order and Justice party, said, introducing the bill.

Currently, the Lithuanian Labor Code includes 13 holidays. Under the proposal, the new rules would come into force in January.
