The Award is the world’s leading youth achievement award. In 2013, more than one million young people around the world took part in the Award, in over 140 countries and territories. The Award equips youth for life by creating opportunities for young people to develop skills, get physically active, give service and experience adventure. The Award can play a critical role in their development outside the classroom. It also allows their achievement to be consistently recognized worldwide, giving young people unique international accreditation of their experiences.
The Award requires imagination, team-working and problem-solving abilities, commitment and dedication and these are invaluable skills the Award teaches to take into any aspect of life or any workplace.
British Ambassador David Hunt welcomed the participants as “future leaders of Lithuania’’ and expressed hope that taking part in the Award will help them to achieve ambitious personal goals and a brighter future for their communities, and for Lithuania. Ben Harvey, a business coach who has lived in Lithuania since 1997, and who is a Gold Award holder took part in the ceremony, too, and gave an inspiring talk about his personal experience of the Award and how it contributed to his career.
Vice minister of Education and Science dr. Natalja Istomina in her speech acknowledged the importance of the Award to a young person’s development through participation in the programme as it provides valuable new experiences, skills and the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy life.
