Situation at Lithuanian borders is calm: Minister of Interior

“As information about the reinforcement of the border was made public, there have even been no attempts to smuggle contraband. There have been no violations. It seems that this information has worked,” he told BNS.
Controls have been tightened at Lithuania’s borders with the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad and Belarus, the minister said.

“The tightened measures will be in place until Monday. Further decisions will depend on the situation. Indeed, everything is very calm and safe,” he said.

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius said on Saturday that Lithuania had stepped up its border controls on Friday following the abduction incident in Estonia. He also said that he had not received any information that similar acts of provocation might take place in Lithuania.
