The ministry said the compensation would ease the financial burden during the period of integration in a certain municipality.
“The current aid paid to asylum beneficiaries is not sufficient to cover their basic needs,” the ministry stressed.
The scheme proposed by the Social Security and Labor Ministry would apply to the refugees after they complete integration at the Refugee Center in Rukla or upon arriving directly in municipalities.
The size of the compensation would be depend on the city the asylum beneficiaries are moved to.
According to calculations made by the ministry, an average of 314 euros per person would be needed for housing compensations during the 12-month integration period. The persons who are relocated to Lithuania under the European Union’s (EU) quota would receive housing compensations from EU money earmarked for their integration.
