Some 874 Lithuanian nationals, 1,040 foreigners under intelligence surveillance in 2016

These people were subjected to court-authorized measures, mostly recording of information transmitted via electronic communications networks, the intelligence agency said in its 2016 performance report.

Compared with 2015, the number of Lithuanians under surveillance declined, from 1,017 persons, while that of foreigners increased, from 904 persons.

The State Security Department also had 34 legal entities on its radar in 2016.

The department last year recommended against issuing or renewing residence permits to 116 people, against allowing entry or issue visas to 418 and against granting citizenship to 15 people. It issued three negative conclusions as to the accreditation of diplomatic personnel and individuals.
