“Unexpected. He was one of the most commended officers. Not only in Lithuania, but also in Brussels I have repeatedly heard good opinions about the service. Truly unexpected,” Social Democratic MP Gediminas Kirkilas, former prime minister, told BNS Lithuania.
He said Milius should probably be suspended from office.
Opposition leader Andrius Kubilius, the leader of the conservative Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats group, said that all of the suspicions lately brought by the law-enforcement had proven correct.
“I have no doubt about the latest actions of STT officers, therefore, the situation should be viewed with all seriousness,” said Kubilius, noting that he considered Milius a “professional of rather high qualifications”.
The leader of the opposition Liberal Movement group, Eugenijus Gentvilas, said there had been some concerns about Milius in the past amid the increase in the amounts of legal and smuggled meat from Poland. However, Gentvilas does not think the available information is sufficient for forcing Milius to resign.
