Testing of Vilnius airport’s renovated runway completed

“The tests were completed a few hours ago. The results are good: all the systems fully comply with the requirements,” Donatas Voveris, chief operating officer at Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports), the operator of the country’s three major international airports, told BNS.

The testing of the runway by a special aircraft of a British company took several days.

The country’s main airport was shut for a major renovation on July 14 and is scheduled to reopen on Friday. Most airlines have diverted their flights to Kaunas Airport, some 100 kilometers away from the capital, for the period.

The renovation of the runway involved replacing the old pavement and reinforcing its foundation, installing new drainage and rainwater collection systems and upgrading the lighting control system.

The renovation project, worth over 18 million euros, was carried out by a consortium of Latvia’s A.C.B. and Lithuania’s Autokausta.
