The Peugeot Boxer with Polish license plates was pulled over on the road from Lazdijai to Sejny, the State Border Guard Service said. The driver, a 43-year-old Polish citizen, had accurate identification and vehicle registration documents.
A search revealed 1,300 kg of raw tobacco stacked in black plastic bags in the cargo compartment.
The driver did not have any documents to prove legal purchase of the excise goods.
An investigation of unlawful possession of excise goods has been started. The Pole faces a fine or up to seven years in prison. He has been taken into custody.
The tobacco and the Peugeot Boxer are stored at the Lazdijai border unit.
