Two UK colleges to open unit in Klaipėda

“We will still have to complete many procedures and tasks but can already celebrate the major breakthrough in the implementation of the vision of Klaipėda as a university city, a regional leader in the Eastern Baltics and the main focal point of the Baltic states. Modern know-how and skills of world-level technical fields that everyone will be able to acquire in the port city will become a major impetus and a source of new ideas for the active regional business,” Grubliauskas said in a press release.

Last Thursday, he signed a protocol of intentions in London with the Teesside University and the Bradford College.

The British colleges intend to establish the joint unit in Klaipėda in a few phases, with the start of bachelor and master’s degrees in engineering and information technologies, as well as vocational studies needed by the local business planned for the fall of 2016.

The joint unit will be the first branch of a UK college in another country of the European Union (EU). The department will have over 6,000 students, including at least 60 percent from other Eastern European countries. Today, seven higher schools in Klaipėda have a total enrolment of about 15,000 students.
