Unemployment in Lithuania edges down over quarter

In Q2 2015, against Q1 2015, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points, against Q2 2014 – by 1.8 percentage points. In Q2 2015, the male unemployment rate stood at 10.7 percent, female – 8 percent.

In Q2 2015, the long-term unemployment rate stood at 4.3 percent, and over a quarter increased by 0.1 percentage points, over a year – decreased by 0.7 percentage point.

In Q2 2015, there were 138,000 unemployed persons aged 15-74. Over a quarter, the number of unemployed persons decreased by 7,800 (5.3 percent), over a year – by 27,400 (16.6 percent).

The number of the long-term unemployed was 62,800 (45.5 percent of the total number of the unemployed), which is by 1,200 (2 percent) more than in Q1 2015, and by 10,500 (14.4 percent) less than in Q2 2014.

In Q2 2015, there were 1.336,000 employed persons in the country, or by 18,800 (1.4 percent) more than in Q1 2015, and by 27,100 (2.1 percent) more than in Q2 2014.

In Q2 2015, the employment rate of persons aged 15-64 stood at 67 percent; over a quarter, it increased by 1 percentage points, over a year – 1.9 percentage points. The male employment rate of the said age group stood at 67.4 percent, female – 66.5 percent.

In Q2 2015, the employment rate of persons aged 55-64 stood at 60.3 percent; over a quarter, it increased by 1.6 percentage points, and over a year – by 4.8 percentage points.

In Q2 2015, there were 1.013,000 economically inactive persons aged 15 and older, i.e. by 18,800 (1.8 percent) less than in Q1 2015.

In Q2 2015, the youth (persons aged 15-24) unemployment rate stood at 16.7 percent; over a quarter, it decreased by 3.2 percentage points, and over a year – 4.6 percentage points.

In Q2 2015, there were 20,900 unemployed persons aged 15-24, which is by 3,900 (15.7 percent) less than in Q1 2015, and by 7,000 (25.1 percent) less than in Q2 2014. In Q2 2015, every eighteenth person aged 15-24 was unemployed.

In Q2 2015, there were 104,000 employed persons aged 15-24. Over a quarter, the number of employed persons aged 15-24 increased by 4,300 (4.4 percent), over a year – by 1,200 (1.2 percent).

In Q2 2015, the youth employment rate stood at 27.9 percent; over a quarter, it increased by 1.5 percentage points, over a year – by 1.4 percentage points. In Q2 2015, every fourth person aged 15-24 was employed.

In Q2 2015, 248,000 (66.5 percent) persons aged 15-24 were economically inactive; out of them, 93 percent were studying at general, vocational schools, schools of higher education (colleges, universities).
