The universities still need to obtain approval from the Seimas, parliament, before launching the merger process.
“It would be a strong humanities university. They have similar programs and Vytautas Magnus University also has a well-developed pedagogical direction,” Raimundas Paliukas, chairman of the parliament’s Committee on Education, Science and Culture, told BNS.
“Besides, the initiative is coming from the universities themselves and I believe it cannot be stopped,” he added.
The MP said that the merger would also contribute to the optimization of the higher education institutions network.
